Oklahoma Close Up’s mission is built on the belief that textbooks and lectures alone are not enough to help students understand the democratic process and make it work. Students need a “close up” experience in government. Oklahoma Close Up’s experiential government studies program strengthens participants’ knowledge of how the political process works, increases their awareness of major state and national issues, and motivates them to become actively involved in the world around them.
All individuals deserve the opportunity to become fully engaged citizens of our democracy. Oklahoma Close Up strives to make our programs accessible for all citizens, regardless of age, race, ability, or political beliefs. Each citizen has a voice, and each citizen’s actions can and do make a difference.
